AMES - Four players are expected to make up Iowa State's men's basketball recruiting class when the early signing period begins today.
Coach Fred Hoiberg has oral commitments from three high school players and transfer Tyrus McGee of Cowley (Kan.) Community College. McGee is one of three guards in the class, as the Cyclones will lose senior starters Diante Garrett and Jake Anderson after this year.
McGee, at 6-2, 190 pounds, is considered one of the top junior college guards available after averaging 16.2 points, 5.2 rebounds to go with 80 3-pointers in his only season at Cowley. He'll have two seasons of eligibility.
Guards 6-3 Anthony Odunsi of Fort Bend, Texas, and 5-9 Tavon Sledge of Spring Valley, N.Y., are expected to sign.
Odunsi averaged 16.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists as a junior and is considered one of the top players in the Houston area. Sledge is a slashing, quick guard from the New York City area. He chose ISU over Big East Conference schools West Virginia, St. Johns, Seton Hall, Cincinnati and Rutgers.
The only frontcourt player set to sign early is Milwaukee-area wing Elgin Cook. The 6-6, 205-pound Cook was first team all-state a year ago and is considered a top-150 recruit by Hoop Scoop magazine.
Women's Coach Bill Fennelly is expecting to sign four players starting today, three of them from Texas.
AAU teammates Kileah Mays, a 6-2 center from Duncanville, Texas, and 5-9 guard Nikki Moody of Euless, Texas, join 5-11 wing Fallon Ellis from the Lone Star State.
Brynn Williamson, a 6-foot guard/forward from Kansas City, Mo., is expected to sign.
