Iowa State has brought back Jeff Grayer, the Cyclones' career scoring leader, as an assistant coach.
Coach Greg McDermott announced Grayer's hiring Friday. The move is pending administrative approval.
Grayer's coaching career is limited to a short stint in the Continental Basketball Association, but his resume is well know to Cyclones fans.
Grayer holds 13 school records, including 2,502 career points, and his jersey was retired by the school in 1991.
McDermott says in a statement that Grayer's hiring is a shot in the arm for the program.
Grayer joins former Iowa Energy coach Nick Nurse on McDermott's reconfigured staff. Nurse's hiring as associate head coach was announced Thursday.
