The Big 12 has released its 2011-12 women's basketball conference composite schedule. The schedule is subject to change due to television obligations. The complete schedule with times and television announcements will be released when complete.
“Anyone that has played in this league knows that the Big 12 is the toughest conference in the country and with the new format of 18 games it will be a monster for sure,” Iowa State Coach Bill Fennelly said. “This schedule gives our incredible fan base the best home schedule we have ever had and we look forward to the fans providing the magic we will need.”
Regular season conference play begins Jan. 4 with teams playing a new double round robin format consisting of 18 games with league members playing each other twice.
Iowa State opens conference action at Oklahoma on Jan. 4 with its first home game being slated for Jan. 7 against Baylor.
In addition to hosting Baylor, the home schedule is highlighted by a Saturday, Jan. 14 showdown with defending national champion Texas A&M.
The Cyclones close out conference play March 3 at Baylor.
The league also announced a format change for the 2012 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship to be held in Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium. Two first round matchups will be played March 7, followed by quarterfinals on March 8. Semifinals are scheduled for March 9, with the final contested on March 10. The winner of the tournament earns the Big 12's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship.
