Xavier wins fifth-grade 4-state basketball title

MINNEAPOLIS - The Xavier fifth-grade girls' basketball team won the Pacesetter Great Four-State Basketball Championship last weekend after winning the Iowa tournament to qualify.
The field had eight qualifying teams from Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Iowa.
Xavier beat Hamlin (S.D.), 26-16, in the championship game at the Target Center, after cruising past Grand Rapids (Minn.), 27-23, and Lac qui Parle Valley (Minn.), 29-12, in the first two rounds.
In the Iowa tournament, Xavier beat Grinnell, 43-23, in the title game.
3 MOSER ATHLETES WIN NATIONAL TITLES
KNOXVILLE, Ill. - Taylor Mullis, Logan Bevans and Kalyssa Reimer of Moser School of Dance and Gymnastics won titles at the 2016 USTA Power Tumbling National Championships last month.
Moser's had 85 qualifiers and 40 earned top 10 finishes.
Runners-up were Madison Habel, Melanie Lutgen, Hannabelle Erickson, Cooper Ingles, Kaydence Ahart, Grace Funke and Kaiden Belinsky. Emma Bockenstedt placed third, along with Kylie Belinsky, Savanna Lehman, Kaia Engelhardt and Kaleah Belinsky.
'They all did fabulous and we are so very proud of each and everyone of our students for their dedication, hard work, sportsmanship and loyalty to our school and to the sport,” Debbie Moser wrote in an email.
C.R.'S SMITH AN ALL-AMERICAN
Michaela Smith of Cedar Rapids, a junior at Linn-Mar, was named to the Scout All-American softball team and will play in the 2016 All-American games at the University of New Mexico in August.
Smith plays for the Iowa Premier Fast-pitch 18U team from Des Moines and was selected an All-American after attending Scout Softball regional and national showcases.
