CEDAR RAPIDS — Austin Filer has been named as the new volleyball coach at Xavier High School.
Filer has most recently served as a coach at the Adrenaline Volleyball Academy, and as assistant volleyball coach at Mount Mercy University (2012-2015).
'We are excited to bring in a coach of Austin's caliber,' Xavier principal Tom Keating said in a release Monday. 'He has a wealth of knowledge and experience and we look forward to the energy and competitive level he will bring to our program.'
Filer succeeds Katie Bailey, who resigned earlier this spring after coaching the Saints for the past two seasons. Bailey posted a mark of 33-41, including 15-22 last season.
'I want to thank (Xavier Athletics Director) Mike Winker and Tom Keating for this amazing opportunity and the tremendous faith that they have shown in me leading this program,' Filer said in the release. 'Xavier High School has a tradition of academic and athletic excellence in the Midwest that is second to none. I'm honored to be the next Saints volleyball coach and look forward to developing a culture of competitive greatness with the program.'
