Tipton’s Noelle Steines will begin pursuit of a fourth consecutive girls’ individual state championship Thursday.
Steines won three straight 1A titles while running for Calamus-Wheatland. Tipton will compete at a 2A meet at Monticello
Mid-Prairie’s boys are ranked No. 1 in 2A, while the girls are No. 2. The Golden Hawks are part of the Pella state-qualifier.
Area teams are divided into three 2A sites (Monticello, Oelwein and Pella) and four in 1A (Iowa City, Jewell, Troy Mills and Pleasantville).
Girls run at 4 p.m., boys at 4:30.
The top three teams and the top 15 individuals from each 2A site advance to the state meet Nov. 2 at Lakeside Golf Course, Fort Dodge.
For 1A, it’s the top two teams and 10 individuals.
