Week 7 Iowa high school football roundup: West Liberty upsets No. 1 Williamsburg

WEST BRANCH 49, NORTH CEDAR 7 — Beau Cornwell totaled 314 yards of offense and scored four touchdowns as Class 1A eighth-ranked West Branch dumped North Cedar, 49-7, in a District 3 high school football game Friday night in Stanwood.
Jacob Graves rushed for two first-half scores and 179 yards to help get the Bears to a 42-7 halftime lead.
Cornwell plunged in from one yard out halfway through the third quarter — his third rushing touchdown on the night — to complete the scoring.
Cornwell completed 21 of 28 passes for 279 yards, 111 of those hauled in by Ben Thompson, who had seven receptions. The two hooked up for the only passing score.
West Branch (7-0, 5-0) can clinch the 1A-3 title with a victory over Tipton in Week 8.

WEST LIBERTY 14, WILLIAMSBURG 9 — The top-ranked team in Class 2A was held to no passing yards and fell to the Comets in a District 5 game at Williamsburg.
West Liberty (5-2, 4-1) built a 14-2 halftime lead thanks to a pair of long touchdown runs then held off the Raiders (6-1, 4-1) at the end.
The Comets held on fourth-and-1 from the 11-yard line with 40 seconds left.

ANAMOSA 15, CAMANCHE 8 — Logan Seeley rushed for 140 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown on a 6-yard run as the Raiders won on the road.
Both Anamosa (3-4, 2-4) touchdowns came in the final 5:23, first on a 32-yard pass from Zac McLean to Walker Marsh. Seeley's TD was set up after the Raiders blocked a Camanche punt with 1:46 left at the 6-yard line.
Marsh caught three passes for 62 yards.

HLV 63, COLO-NESCO 14 — Brandon Schafbuch rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns and Chase Sternhagen added 103 yards and two TDs as the Warriors won at home, handing Colo-Nesco its first 8-player District 5 loss.
Dean Schuall also scored three touchdowns for HLV (6-2, 5-0), including a 42-yard punt return and a 75-yard kickoff return.
Schafbuch scored on runs of 1, 2 and 23 yards, and Sternhagen on runs of 18 and 52.
DAVENPORT ASSUMPTION 41, CENTER POINT-URBANA 0 — Quarterback Jayce Levy had three first-half touchdown runs, including one for 98 yards, as Assumption cruised past the Stormin' Pointers in Davenport.
Levy had scoring runs of 98, 16 and 10 yards to help the Knights to a 32-0 halftime lead. Brandon Schlichting had a 32-yard interception return for a score and Ryan Wohlers recorded a 10-yard touchdown run for Assumption (5-2, 4-1) in the opening half.
CPU quarterback Caleb Andrews was picked off twice and sacked four times in the first half. It was the Stormin' Pointers fourth consecutive loss after a 3-0 start to the year.

DECORAH 49, SOUTH TAMA 6 — Jake Muhlbauer rushed for 120 yards and scored three touchdowns, including an 87-yard kick return, as the Vikings won on the road.
Decorah improved to 5-2 overall, 3-2 in 3A-3.
After an 1 hour, 40 minute weather delay, Muhlbauer took the opening kickoff back for a TD. Kailer McCabe rushed for 80 yards and scored two touchdowns.

POSTPONEMENTS
Several area football games were postponed Friday night, including Alburnett at East Buchanan.
That game had just started and there was no score. The game will kick off Saturday at 6 p.m.
The Dubuque Wahlert at West Delaware game was postponed with 9:19 left in the third quarter and the host Hawks up, 12-0. That game will resume Saturday at 5 p.m.
The Oelwein at Monticello game also was called with the host Panthers up, 22-0, late in the second quarter. The teams will play Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Waukon-Union game in Fayette was called with 5:34 left in the second quarter with the Indians up 10-2. The game will restart Monday at 7 p.m. at Upper Iowa University.
