Gazette area prep football capsules for Week 6:
Iowa City Regina at Wilton
Time and site — 7 p.m. Friday, at Wilton
Records and rankings — Third-ranked Regina is 3-2 overall, 3-0 Class 1A District 4; No. 10 Wilton is 5-0, 3-0.
Overview — Regina goes for its 50th consecutive district win, and does so against a team that provides the biggest remaining challenge of the regular season. The Regals have been dominant since beginning play against schools their own size, beating their first three district foes by a 143-34 count. Isaac Vollstedt has rushed for 515 yards and five touchdowns. Wilton has been similarly impressive with a 148-25 margin in district play. Jerome Mays pilots the Beavers' passing attack with 807 yards; Cory Anderson has 32 catches for 384 yards.
Cedar Rapids Washington at Cedar Falls
Time and site — 7:15 p.m. Friday, at Cedar Falls (UNI-Dome)
Records and rankings — Washington is 3-2 overall, 1-0 Class 4A District 5; No. 7 Cedar Falls is 4-1, 1-0.
Overview — Washington needed a late touchdown to escape Cedar Rapids Jefferson's upset bid last week, 21-18, and the Warriors' level of play will need to rise if they intend to leave the UNI-Dome with a victory. Cedar Falls is one of the most explosive teams in 4A, averaging 48.2 points per game. Sam Gary has rushed for 757 yards and 10 touchdowns, while QB Luke Gillett has thrown for 13 touchdowns and no interceptions. Haven Henningsen has been the focal point of the Warriors' ground attack, netting 713 yards and five TDs.

Cedar Rapids Xavier at Independence
Time and site — 7:30 p.m. Friday, at Independence
Records and rankings — Top-ranked Xavier is 5-0 overall, 3-0 Class 3A District 3; Independence is 3-3, 2-1.
Overview — After suffering through an 0-9 2016 season in which it scored 29 points, Independence has discovered an offensive attack. The Mustangs are averaging a healthy 30.2 points per game, including 59 and 47 in the last two weeks — wins over South Tama and Charles City. Sophomore QB Logan Schmitt has passed for 966 yards and has rushed for 433, with a combined 16 touchdowns. Points and yards will be harder to come by against the stingy Saints, who have allowed 40 points in five games, with two shutouts. Xavier has forced 14 turnovers, with Jacob Hines recovering three fumbles.
Center Point-Urbana at Marion
Time and site — 7:15 p.m. Friday, at Thomas Park Field
Records and rankings — CPU is 3-2 overall, 1-2 Class 3A District 4; Marion is 3-2, 2-1.
Overview — Marion has not won or lost multiple games in a row this season, but the opportunity presents itself now to string some victories together after routing Maquoketa, 62-21, last week. Chris Mohwinkle carried the ball 10 times for 255 yards and four touchdowns, and has rushed for 574 yards (20.5 per carry) this season. CPU has dropped two straight games after a 3-0 start, including a 35-14 defeat last week against Clear Creek Amana. A fair amount of the key Stormin' Pointers are underclassmen, including sophomore RB Alex Wade (446 rushing yards).
Cedar Rapids Jefferson at Waterloo West
Time and site — 7:15 p.m. Friday, at Waterloo
Records and rankings — Jefferson is 1-4 overall, 0-1 Class 4A District 5; West is 4-1, 1-0.
Overview — West suffered some significant graduation losses after last year's playoff season, but the Wahawks have not regressed. They're scoring at a 37.8-point clip, whipping Waterloo East 58-6 last week. Quarterback Cadd Dodd is fifth in 4A passing yards, with 1,146. He has completed 65 percent of his passes for 10 touchdowns. Mario Wright has seven of those TD receptions, catching 29 throws for 668 yards. Jefferson nearly pulled off a sizable upset last week before falling short, 21-18, against Cedar Rapids Washington. Kyler Bell is averaging 24.4 yards on his 17 receptions, with four touchdowns.
Davenport Central at Iowa City High
Time and site — 7:15 p.m. Friday, at Bates Field
Records and rankings — Central is 3-2 overall, 1-0 Class 4A District 7; City High is 2-3, 1-0.
Overview — Assuming Bettendorf is the class of 4A-7, this game will be pivotal in determining the second playoff team. Central has played one close game, a 35-21 loss to Cedar Rapids Prairie, and the Blue Devils have won or lost big in the other four. Jatoviay Hill ranks fourth in 4A in rushing at 875 yards; he has 10 touchdowns and averages 11.2 yards per carry. City High's big-play guy is receiver Zach Jones, whose 47 receptions are tops in 4A. Jones nets 13.8 yards per catch. The Little Hawks beat Clinton, 41-29, last week to end a three-game skid.
Iowa City West at Burlington
Time and site — 7:15 p.m. Friday, at Burlington
Records and rankings — Second-ranked West is 5-0 overall, 1-0 Class 4A District 8; Burlington is 0-5, 0-1.
Overview — This has all the makings of a mismatch, provided West doesn't suffer a letdown after its 48-28 win last week over Cedar Rapids Prairie. The Trojans possess weapons galore, led by quarterback Evan Flitz (70.4-percent completion rate, 1,184 yards, 11 TDs) and receiver Traevis Buchanan (33 catches, 498 yards, 5 TDs). Burlington was competitive in the pre-district portion of its schedule, then was beaten 49-14 last week by Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
Ottumwa at Cedar Rapids Prairie
Time and site — 7:15 p.m. Friday, at John Wall Field
Records and rankings — Ottumwa is 0-5 overall, 0-1 Class 4A District 8; No. 10 Prairie is 4-1, 0-1.
Overview — Another potential blowout. Prairie has one of the best running backs in 4A in Keegan Simmons, whose 899 yards is third-best in the class. Simmons has 11 touchdowns and is averaging 7.4 yards per carry. Braxton Zimmerman adds 417 yards (8.5 per carry), and the Hawks are averaging 317 yards per game on the ground. Ottumwa has been outscored by a margin of 191-59. The Bulldogs' closest decision was last week, a 35-21 loss at Linn-Mar.
Waverly-Shell Rock at Decorah
Time and site — 7:30 p.m. Friday, at Decorah
Records and rankings — No. 9 Waverly-Shell Rock is 5-0 overall, 3-0 Class 3A District 3; Decorah is 4-1, 2-1.
Overview — Decorah faces its second major challenge in a row, but this time the Vikings are at home. Waverly-Shell Rock is second in 3A in both scoring offense (43.2 points per game) and defense (5.8), but Decorah is the Go-Hawks' first opponent this season with a winning record. WSR's Gabriel Santoiemma and Luke Velky both have more than 400 rushing yards this season, and have seven touchdowns apiece. Decorah is coming off a 21-13 loss at top-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier.

Lisbon at Wapsie Valley
Time and site — 7 p.m. Friday, at Fairbank
Records and rankings — Lisbon is 4-1 overall, 2-1 Class A District 4; No. 7 Wapsie Valley is 5-0, 3-0.
Overview — Front-running Wapsie Valley has an opportunity to distance itself from the pack in A-4 and pretty much lock up the district title, while Lisbon hopes to turn it back into a multi-team race (these teams finished in a three-way title tie with East Buchanan last year). Jake Kuhlman and Colin Schrader have carved up the rushing yards evenly for Wapsie — 421 and 420, with four touchdowns apiece. Lisbon was guilty of 15 penalties for 107 yards in a 13-6 loss to East Buchanan last week. Jake Jennett has passed for 478 yards and four touchdowns. Lisbon is allowing 6.4 points per game, Wapsie 6.6.
North Scott at Western Dubuque
Time and site — 7:15 p.m. Friday, at Epworth
Records and rankings — North Scott is 4-1 overall, 1-0 Class 4A District 6; Western Dubuque is 3-2, 0-1.
Overview — Western Dubuque needs a win to stay in prime playoff contention; the Bobcats fell to Pleasant Valley, 55-41, last week despite a gigantic night by passing combo Quinn Baumhover (24-43-1, 445 yards, 5 TDs) and Drake George (14 catches, 328 yards, 5 TDs). George's yardage total was second-most ever by an Iowa receiver in a game. North Scott dropped a Week 1 decision to Davenport Assumption, but has allowed just 27 points in a four-game win streak since.
Linn-Mar at Cedar Rapids Kennedy
Time and site — 7:15 p.m. Thursday, at Kingston Stadium
Records and rankings — Linn-Mar is 1-4 overall, 1-0 Class 4A District 8; Kennedy is 4-1, 1-0.
Overview — The Lions picked up their first win last week against Ottumwa; Alex Hess ran for 221 yards on 30 carries in a 35-21 triumph. Now the 4A-8 gauntlet awaits — Kennedy, Cedar Rapids Prairie and Iowa City West in the next three weeks. Kennedy has won three straight games and has the third-best scoring defense in 4A at 10.8 points allowed per game. Cade Parker is second among 4A tacklers with 52 stops. Quarterback B.J. White has passed for 669 yards, completing 61 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns.
