Watch: Walk-off single sends Lisbon to state baseball tournament
It was a long wait for the Lisbon baseball team, but worth it in the end.
The Lions' Class 1A substate final with Burlington Notre Dame was postponed from 7 p.m. Tuesday to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Washington (Iowa) due to rain.
Then, it took until the final half inning for a run to cross the plate.
Wes Benyshek was hit by a pitch with one out, moved to second on Cooper Siebrecht's sac bunt, then raced home on Jake Jennett's single to put the sixth-ranked Lions (31-5) in the state tournament with a 1-0 victory.
Class 1A quarterfinals take place Friday and Saturday at Principal Park in Des Moines.
