CEDAR RAPIDS — Kennedy High School has announced Duane Wampole as its new girls' track and field coach, pending school board approval.
'We are excited about the positive energy and passion Coach Wampole will bring to our program as well as his commitment to co-curricular athletics and the impact track and field will have on the overall development our young student-athletes,' Kennedy Athletics Director Aaron Stecker said in a release Wednesday afternoon.
Wampole has been active in the Cedar Rapids Track Club since 2009, serving most recently as the president and head coach/manager of the program.
'He is a Level 1 certified coach with the USATF that has developed a true sense of the importance of balancing overall team development with the specificity of the goals and progression for each individual athlete that the sport of track and field demands,' Stecker said. 'Most importantly, he believes in the significant role that high school athletics plays in the growth and education of our student-athletes. He looks forward to developing a program that is not only competitive, but serves as a platform that will create opportunities for our young ladies to reach their full potential in all aspects of their lives.'
Wampole succeeds Mark Jensen, who stepped down after last season.
