Video: Cedar Falls upends defending-champion Waukee in final seconds
DES MOINES — The defending champs in Class 5A are out, via some final-seconds heroics.
Cedar Falls' Emma Gerdes pulled up and drained a jumper with 3.4 seconds left to lift the Tigers to a 48-46 win.
The victory avenges a 61-47 loss in last year's quarterfinals.
It's been an incredible two days for Cedar Falls' basketball programs. A.J. Green's overtime buzzer beater in Tuesday's substate final against Linn-Mar put the CF boys in the state tournament.
Gerdes finished with 25 points, but was nearly upstaged by Waukee's Carlie Littlefield, whose heave at the buzzer bounced off the rim.
Cedar Falls takes on Ankeny Centennial in the semifinals Friday.
