Two No. 1 ranked softball teams fall at Rick Doran Classic
IOWA CITY – Class 5A No. 1 Iowa City West and Class 3A No. 1 Benton both lost battles with highly-ranked foes at the Rick Doran Classic on Friday.
The Women of Troy were downed by 5A No. 2 West Des Moines Valley 2-0. It's West's third loss of the week, following a doubleheader sweep to Cedar Rapids Jefferson.
West bounced back emphatically with a 23-0 victory over Lisbon.
Both 5A No. 9 Cedar Rapids Kennedy and No. 6 Waukee edged 3A No. 1 Benton 2-1, just the Bobcats' second and third losses of the season.
Kennedy fell to 4A No. 2 Oskaloosa 2-1 in its other game.
