Twisters’ Steffensmeier wins 4 state titles

STEFFENSMEIER DOMINATES AT STATE MEET
CEDAR RAPIDS - Allyson Steffensmeier of Twisters Gymnastics won four titles last weekend at the Optional State tournament at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Steffensmeier, competing in Level 9, won the bars, beam, floor exercise and all around.
Riley Kalous (beam), Elise Smith (vault) and Samantha Triplett (floor) won titles in Level 7 for Twisters, and Alexis Sands won the bars in Level 9. Ashley Grace and Tatum Burnhardt placed in Level 7, Alexis Peterson in Level 9.
Twisters, which hosted the event, placed third in both divisions.
Twisters also hosted the Xcel Leap into Spring competition and McKenna Haugen, in Xcel Silver, was a big winner, capturing the vault, beam, floor exercise and all around. Sydney Huber in Xcel Bronze and Skylar Meyers in Xcel Diamond won three events each, Huber the vault, floor and all around and Meyers the vault, bars and all around. Double winners were Kaylee Hageman (bars, floor) in Xcel Bronze, Madison Marcus (vault, floor) in Xcel Silver, Blair Pladsen (bars, all around) in Xcel Gold and Sarah Nolting (beam, floor) in Xcel Diamond.
Other winners were Evalee Netz (vault) and Kira Klesner (bars) in bronze; Katherine Hurkett (bars), Audrey Leno (bars) and Shaeffer Caldwell (floor) in silver; Amelia Berger (floor), Brooklyn Pladsen (beam), Aliya Kean (floor), Kaitlin Hotchkiss (bars) and Payton Basquin (floor) in gold, and Gabriella Kroeze (vault) in platinum.
Bronze placewinners were Harper Flannagan, Kelsey Klesner, Loralei Wilson, Ollie Kress and Avery Basquin. Katelyn Callahan, Angelina Rupert, Cora Spiegelhalter, Jasmine Hartney, Abigail Green, Taryn Bortz, Emma Brandt and Lyndsey Wheeler placed in silver, and Hannah Roth, Anna Cater, Sophia Wilbanks and Leah Crilley placed in gold. Gretchen Gehrls, Anna Penning, Aliyah Burtis and Gabriella Schroud placed in platinum.
Twisters won the platinum team title.
DAVIS, WEIG LEAD SOMERSAULTS
CEDAR RAPIDS - Bailey Davis and Lindsey Weig in Xcel Silver both won four titles for Somersaults Gymnastics at last weekend's Xcel Leap into Spring, hosted by Twisters.
Davis on the bars, beam, floor exercise and all around, Weig the vault, bars, beam and all around.
Emily Henderson in Xcel Bronze and Ellie Jones in Xcel Gold were triple winners, Henderson capturing the beam, floor and all around, Jones the vault, floor and all around.
Other Somersault winners were Bailey Hakert (bars) and Meika Neal (beam) in bronze, Megan Schulte (bars) in silver, and Julianne Singleton (beam) and Laura Swart (floor) in gold.
Somersault placewinners were Ava Christensen in bronze, Elsa Appleton, Isabel Hawker, Baylee Gabrielson, Logan Kalous and Kate Rogers in silver, and Chiara Loesche, Brianna Yanga and Alexus Jarchow in gold,
Somersaults won the gold team title.
