DES MOINES - Tuesday's games at the girls' state basketball tournament at Wells Fargo Arena:
CLASS 2A QUARTERFINAL
No. 12 IOWA CITY REGINA (21-3) vs. No. 2 WESTERN CHRISTIAN (21-3)
* Time: 10 a.m.
* Tournament history: Regina is making its fourth state appearance, and its second in three years. Three-time defending state champion Western is here for the fourth straight year.
* Coaches: Matt Bolger is in his first season at Regina, and owns a 21-3 record there. He is 110-81 in eight seasons overall. Bill Harmsen owns a 99-8 mark in four years at Western, 169-39 in nine years overall.
* Key players: Mary Crompton (5-7, fr.) leads Regina at 11.3 points per game. She shoots 45 percent from long distance, 78 percent from the line. Kennedy Brown (5-8, jr.) adds 8.7 points and 5.6 boards per game. Jamie Gesink (5-9, sr.) is Western's leading threat at 13.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Kenzie Bousema (5-8, sr.) adds 11.5 points per contest.

CLASS 3A QUARTERFINAL
MOUNT VERNON (16-8) vs. No. 1 MEDIAPOLIS (24-0)
* Time: 11:45 a.m.
* Tournament history: Mount Vernon has qualified for the fourth time. The Mustangs were 2A champions in 2010, 3A runners-up in 2011. Mediapolis is making its 24 appearance, its second in a row. The Bullettes made 18 straight six-player appearances from 1965 through 1982.
* Coaches: Dennis Roloff is 49-22 in three years at Mount Vernon, 363-187 in 23 years overall. He took five Cedar Rapids Kennedy teams to state. Todd Rogers is 318-104 in 18 years at Mediapolis, 345-118 in 20 years overall.
* Key players: Kaitlyn Volesky (5-11, soph.) has played in only 11 games for Mount Vernon, but averages 15.4 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Alli Platte (5-11, sr.) adds 12.5 points and 7.7 boards per game. Andrea Larson (6-0, sr., 21.7 ppg, 10.4 rpg), Darby Massner (5-9, sr., 18.0 ppg) and UNI recruit Heidi Hillyard (6-0, sr., 10.2 ppg, 11.9 rpg) pace Mediapolis.

CLASS 4A QUARTERFINAL
No. 8 CEDAR RAPIDS XAVIER (17-6) vs. No. 1 HARLAN (23-0)
* Time: 8:30 p.m.
* Tournament history: Xavier is making its 11th appearance. The Saints claimed state championships in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2013. The Saints edged Harlan for the 2013 title, 53-52. Harlan is in the state field for the 12th time. The Cyclones are defending 4A champions and own a 49-game win streak.
* Coaches: Tom Lilly has compiled a 306-113 mark in 17 years at Xavier and owns a 496-215 mark in 30 years overall. Zach Klaassen is 72-3 in three years at Harlan.
* Key players: Lizzy Bailey (5-6, sr.) leads Xavier's attack at 13.8 points per game. Morgan Breitbach (5-7, sr.) adds 10.2 points per contest. Iowa State volleyball recruit Jess Schaben (6-1, sr.) leads Harlan at 14.1 points per game. Taylor Frederick (6-1, jr.) adds 13.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
