State softball Monday: All the scores, stories and photos
The 2017 Iowa high school state softball tournament kicked off Monday at Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge.

CLASS 1A QUARTERFINALS
No. 3 Clarksville 9, No. 6 Belle Plaine 8
Clarksville survived a back-and-forth game that was tied three different times (5-5, 6-6, 7-7).
The Indians took a 9-7 lead on Makayla Holub's sixth-inning, two-RBI single to left, then stopped BP's rally one run short in the top of the seventh.
No. 7 Sigourney 7, No. 2 Akron-Westfield 3
The Savages jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed en route to the upset.
Sigourney's Barthelman sisters each had multiple hits -- Autum was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run while Summer went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run.
No. 4 Westwood 11, No. 5 Colfax-Mingo 9
Katelyn Martian's fifth-inning sac fly proved to be the winning run for Westwood in a high-scoring game. Colfax-Mingo had rallied from 9-5 down to tie it in the fourth.
Martian was 3-for-5 and drove in five runs.
No. 1 Lansing Kee 18, No. 8 Montezuma 1
Defending state champion Kee tied all-class state tournament records with 23 hits and 18 runs in a quarterfinal win over Montezuma.
Kendra Cooper was 5-for-6 with three RBIs while Courtney Cooper, Chloe Severson and Katie Brennan each had three hits. No. 9 hitter Sydney Strong batted in four.
CLASS 2A QUARTERFINALS
No. 6 Eddyville EBF 7, No. 3 Waterloo Columbus 2
EBF broke open a 1-0 lead with six runs in the top of the seventh to upset Waterloo Columbus.
Leadoff hitter Taryn Swartz and cleanup Claire Jager were each 3-for-4 -- Swartz scored twice while Jager drove in a pair.
No. 2 Interstate 35 4, No. 7 Central Springs 3 (8 innings)
Interstate 35 walked off with a quarterfinal win when Cheyenne Hiatt singled home Slye Richardson in the bottom of the eighth.
The Roadrunners rallied to force extras with Kate Stanley's one-out RBI single that scored Olivia Carlson in the seventh.
No. 5 Iowa City Regina 8, No. 4 North Union 1
Katie Bracken's two-run homer broke a scoreless deadlock in the top of the fourth, then the 2015 state champs broke it open with five runs in the sixth.
Gazette Athlete of the Year finalist Sarah Lehman scattered three hits and a run (via a solo HR) over seven innings while striking out 14.
No. 1 Durant 9, No. 8 Logan-Magnolia 0
Kamryn Meyer pitched six shutout innings, allowing just two hits as top-seeded Durant cruised to the semifinals.
Aubrey Werthmann and Kira Schult each had a hit and three RBIs while Cathy Ralfs was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
CLASS 3A QUARTERFINALS
No. 1 Davenport Assumption 10, No. 8 West Marshall 0 (6 innings)
Nicole Timmons pitched 5 1/3 innings before West Marshall got its first hit and had plenty of cushion thanks to the Knights' potent offense.
Olivia Wardlow led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Timmons struck out 11 Trojans.
No. 5 Center Point-Urbana 14, No. 4 Humboldt 2 (5 innings)
CPU's offense exploded, turning the typically competitive 4-5 game into a rout. Olivia Brecht and Claire Holtz homered for the Stormin' Pointers, who totaled 16 hits to Humboldt's three. Holtz was 4-for-4 and drove in six, while Brecht was 3-for-3 with four RBIs.
CPU quickly jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first and after Humboldt sliced the lead in half, shut the door from there.
