Spencer Van Scoyoc, Tyler Nunemaker tabbed MVC best

Cedar Rapids Jefferson's Spencer Van Scoyoc and Cedar Rapids Prairie's Tyler Nunemaker earned individual honors to go along with their teams advancing to the state baseball tournament.
Van Scoyoc and Nunemaker were named divisional Players of the Year, according to Thursday's news release from the Mississippi Valley Conference.
Van Scoyoc, a 19th-round draft pick of the Toronto Blue Jays and Arizona State signee, led the MVC Valley Division with 16 home runs and 41 RBIs. He also has 13 doubles, hitting .388 with a .483 on-base percentage. As a starter, the left-hander is 4-1 with a 1.33 earned-run average, striking out 63 in just 42 innings pitched. The J-Hawks qualified for the Class 4A state tournament for the first time since 1998.
Nunemaker, a right fielder who moved to center for opening day, batted .459 with 56 hits, earning the top honor in the MVC Mississippi. He had four home runs and 43 RBIs, helping the Hawks to a second straight MVC divisional crown and the program's second state berth. Prairie Coach Todd Rima was MVC Mississippi Coach of the Year.
Top-ranked Prairie is 35-6 overall, going 21-5 in the conference.
Second-ranked Iowa City West won the MVC Valley title and Trojans Charlie Stumpff was named MVC Valley Coach of the Year. West, the 4A state runner-up in 2014 and 2015, is 33-6 with a 22-4 MVC mark.
Prairie, Cedar Rapids Washington and Iowa City High each had three first-team all-MVC Mississippi selections.
Infielder Cal Clark and pitcher Darren Kilpatrick joined Nunemaker on the first team. City High pitcher Bryce Frantz, catcher Brett McCleary and infielder Dylan Leigh were named to the first team. The Warriors Brady Bunten, who led the conference with 60 hits, outfielder Luke Jonasson and utility Drew Dostal received first-team honors. Cedar Rapids Xavier's Bryce Schule (utility) and outfielder Sean Murphy were first-teamers.
Jefferson had a MVC Valley best four first-teamers. Infielders Zeb Render, Tyler Roeder and Jared Eivins received first-team honors.
West had three first-team picks. Trojans pitcher Austin Miller, infielder Izaya Ono-Fullard and outfielder Connor McCaffery were named to the first team.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy duo Matt Berst and Tyler Dralle made the first team. Berst was the Cougars' starting catcher. Dralle was selected as an outfielder.
Linn-Mar senior Manny Jeffery, who had an MVC Valley high 57 hits, earned first-team honors.
