South Tama wins 5 individual state wrestling medals

DES MOINES – South Tama has some hardware to take home.
Five Trojans claimed medals Saturday at the Iowa High School Athletic Association Class 2A state wrestling tournament at Wells Fargo Arena. South Tama was ninth before the finals with 61 points.
Bailey Chyma (170) and Isaac Judge (152) placed third for the Trojans. South Tama's Tanner Probasco (126) was fifth, Brady Fritz was sixth at 113 and 132-pounder Colton Vest finished eighth.
Independence's Jake Juhl (160) and 195-pounder Matt McMillan both placed seventh.
Solon also had two medalists. Ben Carr was seventh at 126 and Cole Fritz finished eighth at 145 for the Spartans.
Union Community's Derek Holschlag moved up a weight and still reached the awards podium. Holschlag placed third at 132. West Liberty sophomore Bryce Esmoil (195) also captured bronze.
Wamac wrestlers Vic Malloy, of Williamsburg, and Mount Vernon's John Engelbrecht both earned fourth-place finishes. Engelbrecht wrestled at 160, while Malloy was at 182.
West Delaware's Coy Roussell battled injury most of the season and still found his way to the awards stand. Roussell wrestled just 19 matches all season, including six at state, to place sixth at 170.
Vinton-Shellsburg's Nick Hyland was seventh at 145. Trey Van Weelden, a 152-pounder for Washington, Iowa, also placed seventh.
Oelwein's Travis McMillan finished eighth at 220.
Creston-O/M held the lead in the team race with 85 ½ points, leading Clarion-Goldfield-Dows by 12. ADM and Glenwood are tied for third with 70. New Hampton is sixth with 69 ½, which is a half-point ahead of Albia.
