MARION — A football coach is likely to be approved by the Marion Independent School board of education April 13, and multiple sources have indicated that it will be Tim Lovell.
Marion athletics director Corby Laube said he was not at liberty to discuss the football hire until it was approved by the school board at next week's meeting.
Lovell, an assistant coach at Linn-Mar, could not be reached for comment Monday. Lions head coach Bob Forsyth declined comment.
According to the Linn-Mar school website, Lovell is a PE teacher at Excelsior Middle School and also serves as the Linn-Mar JV soccer coach in addition to his football duties; he coaches defensive backs, wide receivers and is the special-teams coordinator.
Regardless of the hire, a new football coach will face a major rebuilding project. The Indians went 0-9 last fall and are mired in a 17-game losing streak.
Tony Perkins announced his retirement as football coach on Jan. 4. Perkins finished with a 104-59 record in 17 years at his alma mater.
