Two-time all-state midfielder Josie Durr of Solon has committed to play soccer at the University of Iowa.
Durr, a junior, has been one of the state's leading scorers for the Spartans and also plays basketball and competes in track.
'Ever since I was a little kid I wanted to play at Iowa and be a Hawkeye,” Durr said. 'I just really like the coaches there, and one of my (club) teammates (senior Cora Meyers of Pleasant Valley) is going there too. I thought it would be fun to play with her too.”
Durr also considered Iowa State and Northern Iowa. Iowa coaches have told her they project her as a midfielder in college, a position she plays in club at ISC as well as at Solon.
Iowa offered her in late September, and she committed in October. She said she likes Iowa's style of play, and staying close to home was a priority.
She said that she will try to work on certain aspects of her game to prepare for college: her speed of play, shooting accuracy and keeping her fitness level high.
