Sarah Schmitt commits to Omaha

Aug. 11, 2017 6:39 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS — The offer came in July, on Sarah Schmitt's birthday.
Her response came Friday. It was affirmative.
A junior-to-be at Cedar Rapids Prairie, Schmitt confirmed that she has orally committed to play women's basketball at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
'I visited three times, and each time I really liked it,' Schmitt said. 'The coaching staff is awesome. It's an up-and-coming program. The coaches are really young and work really hard.'
A 5-foot-7 guard, Schmitt averaged 13.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game last season as Prairie finished 9-13. She has 470 points in her first two varsity seasons.
Omaha was 16-15 last season, including 8-8 in the Summit League. Schmitt said she is one of six commitments from the Class of 2019.
'They said I would fit in as a 1 and 2,' she said. 'There's not anyone else in the class that's a guard, so hopefully I can come in and help pretty quickly.'
