Prep football roundup: No. 1 North Fayette Valley opens with win

Top-ranked North Fayette Valley opened the defense of its Class 2A state football title by running over Decorah Friday night, 22-7, in Decorah.
The TigerHawks rushed for 285 yards, led by Dillon Baumler with 107 and two touchdowns. Tanner Kuhens added 93 rushing yards and Trevor Hurd chipped in with 45 yards and a touchdown.
North Fayette Valley was unable to score in the first quarter, but took advantage of good field position.
The TigerHawks got on the board with 10:13 left in the second on Baumler's first touchdown run and Kendrick Bemis added the 2-point run to make it 8-0.
NFV added another score 1:20 before halftime. Hurd scored on a quarterback keeper to cap off a 60-yard, 10-play drive. The 2-point run failed, making it 14-0 at the half.
Decorah fumbled on a punt return in the third, giving the TigerHawks the ball at the Vikings' 37. Ten plays later, Baumler found the end zone for the second time in the game. He also added the 2-point conversion to give NFV a 22-0 lead with 4:23 left in the third.
NFV outgained Decorah, 285-128. All of the TigerHawks' yards were on the ground.

ANAMOSA 22, NORTH CEDAR 0 — The Raiders, coming off one of the most successful seasons in school history, got off to a flying start by scoring a shutout in Stanwood.
The game was called with 3:55 left in the third quarter.
Trevor Wehling scored a pair of touchdowns and Kolin Schulte followed an interception in the second quarter with a 17-yard touchdown run.
Wehling totaled 69 yards on 10 carries, scoring on a 1-yard run in the first quarter and a 13-yard run in the third that capped the scoring. Daniel Husmann added 66 yards on six carries and Wehling had 48 on seven rushes.
The Raiders totaled 232 total yards, holding North Cedar to 192.

EAST BUCHANAN 48, NORTH TAMA 0 — Jacob Schmitt rushed for 191 yards and three touchdowns as the Bucs won in Traer.
Griffin Cabalka added 63 yards and a TD on 13 carries and Carter Downer had 78 yards and a score on eight carries.
The Bucs' defense allowed just 24 total yards.
