Prep football roundup: Cedar Rapids Kennedy shuts out Ottumwa to stay in playoff race

B.J. White completed 21 of 24 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns as Cedar Rapids Kennedy kept its playoff hopes alive with a 42-0 win at Ottumwa.

White also rushed for 50 yards and scored a TD. Nic Duehr caught 8 passes for 113 yards and three TDs and Rizaiha Maide rushed for two TDs.

Johnson Mator led a defense that limited Ottumwa to under 100 yards with 10 tackles, a sack and interception.

IOWA CITY REGINA 42, COLUMBUS COMMUNITY 7 — Brady Bigley and Jacob Phillips both scored two touchdowns and Michael Conlon passed for two as top-ranked Regina picked up its second-straight lopsided road win.

Bigley scored on a 4-yard run and 85-yard interception return, Phillips on 28- and 8-yard runs and Conlon passed 44 yards to Jack Jensen and 12 to Noah Felderman.

WEST BRANCH 28, TIPTON 14 — Luke Lenoch rushed for 194 yards and three touchdowns as West Branch outscored host Tipton 14-0 in the final quarter.

The Tigers scored on their second possession of the game, but the Bears answered right back. Tipton then got a 79-yard touchdown run from Daulton Mente to go up 14-7 halfway through the third quarter.

Lenoch rumbled around left end for a score 30 seconds into the fourth, then the Bears defense went to work. Lenoch scored from 30 yards out and tacked on a 5-yard TD run with just under four minutes left.

With a win in Week 9, the Bears (5-1 in 1A-3, 6-2) can clinch their 24th playoff berth.

MID-PRAIRIE 49, ANAMOSA 7 — Ricardo Vargas rushed for 141 yards and four touchdowns and Keaton Duwa added 164 yards and two scores as the Hawks rolled to a win at home.

Mid-Prairie (3-3 in 2A-5, 4-4 overall) totaled 452 rushing yards.

Michael Martensen led Anamosa (2-4, 3-5) with 116 yards and a TD on 14 rushes.

DECORAH 35, CHARLES CITY 6 — Jake Muhlbauer rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns and Brannan Hogan passed for 150 and one TD as the Vikings evened their records at 3-3 in 3A-3 and 4-4 overall

Decorah totaled 359 yards of offense, including 209 on the ground.

Hogan completed 11 of 15 passes and also had a rushing TD. Shawn Shindelar caught four passes for 85 yards and a TD.

DYERSVILLE BECKMAN 31, MONTICELLO 21 — The Blazers scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter to open a 31-7 lead, then held on for the win at Monticello.

Luke Hageman rushed 17 times for 178 yards, including touchdown runs of 20 and 67 yards, for the Trailblazers (2-4, 3-5).

For Monticello (1-5, 3-5), Max Keleher carried 53 times for 232 yards and scored all three Panther touchdowns.

EAST BUCHANAN 36, EDGEWOOD-COLESBURG 0 — Carter Downer rushed 23 times for 152 yards and two touchdowns as the Buccaneers (6-2, 5-1 A-4) shut out the Vikings (3-5, 3-3 A-4) at home.

Downer became the school's all-time leading rusher.

ELKADER CENTRAL 60, WEST CENTRAL 14 — Derek Ehrhardt rushed for 149 yards and four touchdowns and threw three touchdown passes, totaling 180 yards, for Elkader (6-2, 5-0 8-player District 3).

CLAYTON RIDGE 42, DURANT 6 — Jace Moore completed 11 of 19 passes for 211 yards and five touchdowns as the Eagles (6-2, 5-1 1A-3) downed the Wildcats (1-7, 0-6 1A-3) at home.

Eric Ihde ran for 97 yards and two touchdowns while Robby Sweers caught three passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns for Clayton Ridge.

NORTH LINN 52, STARMONT 21 — Levi Hinton rushed for 152 yards and two TDs on eight carries and Logan Novak added three scores and totaled 126 rushing yards on nine carries.

The Lynx improved to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in Class A District 4,
