Prep basketball roundup: Cascade returns to state tournament

Class 2A
No. 8 Cascade 43, No. 10 Dike-New Hartford 40
No. 8 Cascade beat No. 10 Dike-New Hartford 43-40 in a Class 2A substate final Saturday night in Independence.
Cascade's Gannon O'Brien hit four 3-pointers as part of his 18-point night. Harris Hoffman added 10 points.
Cascade (22-2), last year's 2A runner-up, earned a second straight trip to the state tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
Dike-New Hartford finished 21-4.

No. 6 Pella Christian 72, Highland 33
The Huskies came up a game short of making state Saturday night in Oskaloosa.
No. 6 Pella Christian (20-4) had a 19-9 lead after the first quarter and 38-17 at half. Highland ends its season 19-5.

Camanche 86, West Branch 80
An 11-0 surge midway through the fourth quarter helped Camanche break a 70-all tie and earn its first trip to the boys' state basketball tournament in 32 years Saturday night in Muscatine.
Cooper Kabela had a game-high 32 points and 10 rebounds for the Bears, who were vying for the program's first state tournament appearance. Beau Cornwell poured in 26 points, 22 in the first half, for West Branch (18-6).

The Lions finished 19-4.
Class 4A
No. 6 Cedar Rapids Kennedy 49, Mason City 39
In a game postponed from Friday, the sixth-ranked Cougars won a defensive battle in Eby Fieldhouse.
Drake Brewester had 15 points to lead Kennedy (17-5) to a Class 4A substate semifinal victory. Derrick Diggins added 10 points.
Kennedy advances to face Cedar Falls (16-7) at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the U.S. Cellular Center.
