CEDAR RAPIDS - Cedar Rapids Kennedy Coach Jon McKowen has been impressed by his team at times this season.
The Cougars seemed to put it all together a little more Friday night.
Class 4A sixth-ranked Kennedy poured in 27 points in the second quarter and handled host Cedar Rapids Washington, 77-43.
'This was maybe our most complete game of the season,” McKowen said. 'We've played really well in stretches and I thought we played really well in stretches again.”
The Cougars (5-0, 3-0) increased their pressure and the offense thrived because of it in the second quarter.
Kennedy broke things open with a 27-8 edge in the second quarter. The Cougars closed with two steals that led to five straight points from Malik Haynes. Drake Brewster put in two of his game-high 25 points in the final seconds of the first half for a 46-20 lead.
Derrick Diggins led the Cougars with six assists to go with his 12 points.
Washington (1-4, 0-3 MVC) received 10 points from Mick McCurry. Donovan Beard added eight points and seven rebounds for the Warriors.
