Looking back at City High’s sweep of West

IOWA CITY - Last Friday, both West High's girls' and boys' basketball faced off against crosstown rival City High in a doubleheader at City High.
On the girls' side, the game was controlled by City's dynamic duo of Ashley and Courtney Joens. who combined for 38 points in the 57-41 win for the third-ranked Class 5A Little Hawks.
The Women of Troy seemed overwhelmed by the barrage of 3-pointers taken by City, the majority of which went in, and were unable to respond on the other side of the ball. Sophomore Logan Cook led the Trojans in scoring with 13, but it turned out to not be enough as they faced their second loss to the Little Hawks this year, the first of which was a double overtime loss at West.
On the boys' side, the Trojans lost, 65-53, in what some would call an upset. West came in ranked second in the state and on a win streak of eight games before the loss last Friday night. Until Friday, they had a 15-game win streak against City High.
City came out with an energy on the floor that matched the much rowdier student section City boasted.
The Little Hawks had great play from their seniors, especially the 3-point shooting for Henry Mulligan and Nile Ringen.
West's inability to hit its 3-pointers (seven for 27) and playing uncharacteristically bad defense factored into the loss.
