East Buchanan added to its state tournament treasures.
The Buccaneers hoarded team and individual gold at the Class 1A state golf championships at American Legion Golf Course on Saturday in Marshalltown.
Junior Chris Cooksley fired the lowest score of the second round, carding 71, and winning medalist honors with a two-day total of 143. It is his second state title in three seasons, tying for third last year.
Cooksley became the 13th two-time state medalist.
East Buchanan captured the team title, shooting 620 total and beating runner-up Mason City Newman by 23 strokes. Senior Hunter Schulte shot 75 Saturday, placing 13th with 158. He finished in the top 15 each of the last three seasons. Ryan Schmitt tied for 14th with 159, tallying 77 on the second day.
Sophomore Jacob Hesner and Junior Dylan Kress finished tied for 17th and 19th, respectively. Hesner shot 79 to round out the scores for the Bucs' first state team title.
The Wamac Conference was well represented in the 3A state meet. West Delaware's Clayton Larsen was impressive, shooting 69 and claiming the individual title Saturday at Livermore's Spring Valley Golf Course. Larsen shot 140 total, edging Webster City's Alec Fuhs and Decorah's Sam Sacquitne by one.
Williamsburg's Isaac Knock was sixth at 149 and Mount Vernon's Connor Hermann was seventh with 152. West Delaware's Trent Shaw and Benton Community's Landen Pace tied for 10th with 155.
Larsen's performance helped the Hawks finish second with 625, 11 shots back of team champion Webster City. Mount Vernon placed fourth with 634 and Williamsburg was sixth at 652, which was six better than eighth-place Vinton-Shellsburg.
South Winneshiek's Logan Schweinefus added another state golf crown to the family's haul. Schweinefus claimed 2A medalist honors with 139, firing 69 in the second round at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
Schweinefus, a state runner-up last season, joined his cousin, Cody Schweinefus, who was a two-time state champion (2006-07) from Decorah.
Cascade's Race Cuckler shot 74 Saturday, giving him a two-round total of 151 and placing ninth.
