Klostermann a surprise scorer in Linn-Mar’s 74-61 triumph over Cedar Rapids Kennedy

CEDAR RAPIDS - He probably didn't show up prominently on Cedar Rapids Kennedy's scouting report.
There was little reason for Beau Klostermann to be highlighted. Frankly, the junior forward hadn't provided too many in the early going this season for the Linn-Mar Lions.
'Nice night for him to have a coming-out-party,” Linn-Mar Coach Chris Robertson said, after his team's 74-61 victory Tuesday night at Kennedy. 'He's really good; he's going to be really good. He just keeps improving.”
Klostermann scored a game-high 17 points off the bench as Class 4A seventh-ranked Linn-Mar (6-1) won a fun, up-tempo affair that featured 43 hoisted 3-pointers. He had scored 18 points total in his team's first half-dozen games.
This was really stepping up. The Lions have won six in a row and 12 of 13 in this neighborhood rivalry.
'My shots were finally going down,” Klostermann said. 'I was thrilled, been waiting for this for a long time. I took a lot of shots over the break, and I think that really helped out.”
The 6-foot-4 lefty provided an inside-outside boost, hitting all three of his trey attempts. Linn-Mar was 13 of 27 from the circle, moving the ball very well at times against Kennedy's aggressive defense.
'He played a heck of a game,” said Linn-Mar's Jordan Bohannon. 'I'm proud of him.”
Bohannon was his usual huge self in the fourth quarter, draining a trio of 3s to help the Lions overcome a 48-46 deficit after three quarters. Eighth-ranked Kennedy (5-2) rallied from a dozen points down in the first half to lead by five in the third-quarter.
'I just didn't think we played within ourselves at times,” said Kennedy Coach Jon McKowen. 'We tried to do a little too much at times, which got us out of rhythm offensively. It snowballed for us a little bit. Then defensively we struggled guarding two sides.”
Bohannon finished with 15 points, Nic Uhlir 11 and Jordan Brandt 10 for Linn-Mar. Bryton Heisler had 12 points and Drake Brewster and Brendon Manning 10 each for Kennedy.
The Cougars also were hurt by poor free-throw shooting (10 of 21). That helped offset a substantial rebounding edge.
'I thought offensively, for the most part, we were pretty good,” Robertson said. 'We really spread the ball out and worked it around. They really scramble around and help. I think we made them pay a few times. We didn't do a great job with on-ball screens defensively, and we didn't rebound very well ... But all that being said, it's a good win.”
