Kennedy football bouncing back

CEDAR RAPIDS - The Cougars (3-2) are back to their winning ways.

After an undefeated regular season in 2015 that saw several school records shattered, a playoff appearance at the UNI-Dome for the first time in 20 years and a state runner-up finish, Kennedy's football team dropped its first two games of the 2016, falling to Muscatine and crosstown rival Washington.

The '#Family,” however, is on a three-game winning streak following the 77-13 blowout of Burlington (2-3) on Friday night, the Cougars' first district win. Kennedy has outscored its last three opponents, 171-20, posting an average of 57 points.

If anyone questioned how Kennedy would respond to losing its first two contests, the Cougars have their answer. With a record of 3-2 (1-0), Kennedy still can control its own destiny in the district and still can navigate its way to the state playoffs, although it will take big wins over Linn-Mar (2-3, 1-0), Iowa City West (3-1, 0-1) and Prairie (4-1, 1-0).

Before Friday night's drubbing of the Grayhounds, Kennedy was ranked 17th in the state. The Cougars are back in action this Friday, taking on Linn-Mar in another district game at 7:15 p.m. at Linn-Mar Stadium.

With the Cougars rolling, it seems as if the '#Family” is back to being feared once again.
