Jenks honored by Gatorade

MARION - Stephanie Jenks, who won three individual state championships for Class 4A team runner-up Linn-Mar, is the Gatorade Iowa Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
The junior won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.09, the 1,500-meter run in 4:27.76 and set a state record in the 3,000-meter run in 9:34.55, leading the Lions to a second-place finish as a team at the Class 4A state meet this spring. Also the state's 2012-13 Gatorade Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year, Jenks was also a triple-event winner at the Drake Relays, winning the 800 in 2:09.64, the 1,500 in 4:31.09 and the 3,000 in 9:33.81, the last of which ranked as the nation's No. 2 performance among prep competitors in 2015.
Jenks is an eight-time state champion, winning the 3,000 and 1,500 three times each and the 800 twice.
