Jefferson’s Kyle Briggs, 4 other area 3A wrestlers, draw ranked foes in quarterfinals

DES MOINES - Taking on a No. 1 ranked wrester in the quarterfinal of the state tournament might be just like any other match when it's broken down to its basic principles, but that No. 1 next to the name can be hard to ignore.
For five Gazette-area Class 3A wrestlers, the challenge becomes making that number disappear in their minds.
Cedar Rapids Washington's Will Foreman (126), Kennedy's Dalles Jacobus (220) and Ben Sarasin (160), Jefferson's Kyle Briggs (152) and Iowa City West's Nelson Brands (138) all drew No. 1 seeds in Friday's quarterfinal after winning their first matches.
'It is more important and I think it will be a bigger deal if I win this one, but I just have to approach it the same way,” Briggs said. 'It starts by clearing my mind and getting my body ready and warmed up like any other match.”
