IOWA CITY — It's official. The Jefferson J-Hawks are most prolific slugging softball team of all time in Iowa.
Class 5A fourth-ranked Jefferson cracked five home runs in a Mississippi Valley Conference sweep of Iowa City High on Tuesday.
That sends the J-Hawks' total to 59 this season. The old record for a team in a season was 58, set by Pleasant Valley in 2013.

Erica Oler and Liv Erickson homered in the opener, a 13-0, five-inning rout. Jefferson (31-3 overall, 22-0 MVC) won the nightcap, 16-0 in six innings. After Avery Guy hit one out of the park, Hannah Markham tied the record.
Then it was Lindsey Culver with the tie-breaker, a three-run shot, her 18th of the season.
Jefferson is at Cedar Rapids Kennedy on Thursday.
