TEAMS TO WATCH
Solon – The Spartans have been one of the most consistent boys’ golf programs in the spring. They missed the state tournament last year after three straight appearances and two runner-up finishes. Solon still has Isaiah Zoske, who is capable of a low score each round. Nick Stahle played in 12 of 14 meets and seniors Nolan Seagren and Brady Evers give Solon four letterwinners back. With some promising newcomers and strong freshmen group, Solon can contend for another Wamac title.
South Winneshiek – The Warriors are loaded with experience, returning six starters front 1A state tournament qualifier. South Winn was second in the Upper Iowa Conference and have a mix of depth and talent. The Warriors can improve on their 172.09 combined adjusted average, which was eighth in 1A a year ago. Braiden Todd, Carson Streeter, Cale Kleppe and Jackson Goltz were all-conference performers and Matson Winings placed fourth at the sectional meet. South Winn has all the components for success.
Washington (Iowa) – The Demons are coming off a Southeastern Conference team title and fifth-place finish at the 3A state tournament. Washington lost a leader in Roman Roth due to graduation but has a strong nucleus back. Rajan Roth and Drew Conrad are a good combo to power the Demons. Carson Brown is another returning starter, while Cole Vetter and Kaleb Orr saw limited action. Washington could match its performance from last season.
West Delaware – The Hawks were second behind Solon in the Wamac. West Delaware also qualified two years ago, but didn’t make it back last season. The Hawks have six starters, including many that were on that 2023 state squad. Macoy Peyton, Aidan Zirtzman, Colson Mersch and Griffin Lott lead the way. Jack Buesing and Blake Mather are also returning starters. West Delaware also has a few newcomers that could contribute. Course management is a focus to start the season and the Hawks can make noise in the postseason.
