Iowa City West wins battle of No. 1s: Boys’ prep basketball roundup

Iowa City West had five players in double-figures as the Class 4A top-ranked Trojans beat Class 3A top-ranked Dubuque Wahlert, 76-56, last night in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys' basketball showdown in Dubuque.
Connor McCaffery led with West (18-0, 14-0) with 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists while Wali Parks, Alex Henderson and Tanner Lohaus scored 13 points each. Devontae Lane finished the night with 12 points and four steals.
Nolan Timp led all scorers with 15 points for Wahlert (11-7, 7-6 MVC Valley) and David Iwowari had 12 points.
C.R. KENNEDY 79, C.R. JEFFERSON 69 - Brendon Manning poured in 25 points as the Cougars (10-3, 13-5) won a Mississippi Valley Conference battle at home.
Bryton Heisler added 15 and Cole Murdock chipped in with 12 for the Cougars, who were down, 35-34, at halftime.
Taylor Koenigsmark led the J-Hawks (0-13, 1-17) with 27 points. Bryce Cardis scored 12 and Adam VanOort 11.
MARION 68, CENTER POINT-URBANA 63 (OT) - Baylor Fish, Craig Engle and Jacob Manderscheid scored 13 points apiece as Marion pulled away in overtime in a Wamac West game at Marion.
Devin Quinn added nine points for the Indians (13-6, 9-5).
Grant Dirks scored a game-high 16 points for Center Point-Urbana (6-13, 6-8), while Mason McCauley chipped in with 15.
C.R. XAVIER 83, LINN-MAR 73 - Calvin Winker scored 22 points and Mitch Burger added 21 to lead Xavier to an upset at Linn-Mar.
Adam McDermott had 19 points to go along with nine rebounds for the Saints (10-8, 6-7 MVC).
Jordan Bohannon led all scorers with 34 points for Class 4A sixth-ranked Linn-Mar (14-4, 11-2). Nic Uhlir scored 15 points for the Lions.
CAMANCHE 58, IOWA CITY REGINA 57 - Nick Phillips scored 19 points for Regina in a loss at Camanche.
Drew Cook scored 15 and Nate Stenger chipped in 10.
CEDAR FALLS 57, IOWA CITY HIGH 55 - The Little Hawks trailed by one at the break but the difference in the game came down AJ Green making two free throws with five seconds to play to give Cedar Falls the victory.
Chuck Johnson scored 13 points for City High and Micah Martin and Henry Mulligan added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
