IOWA CITY - Whether it was the spirit of homecoming, or the glimmer shining from Davonte Foster's cleats, there was certainly magic in the air at Bates Field Friday night.
Iowa City High (2-3) came out victorious over Clinton (1-4), 41-29, in a Class 4A District 7 game.
Both teams entered the night on three-game losing streaks. But Foster helped the Little Hawks' streak come to an end. Foster rushed for 211 yards and three TDs.
The Little Hawks got on the board first after a snap went over the head of the Clinton punter and through the back of the end zone for a safety.
Clinton regained its composure as quarterback Brennan Lemke found Jaelen Boysen for a 67-yard strike. Two plays later, Lemke punched it in.
Foster then broke loose from 74 yards out for a score. After a two-point conversion, the Little Hawks went back on top 10-7.
The River Kings responded as do-it-all quarterback and kicker Lemke connected on a 29-yard field goal.
Foster struck again on the Little Hawks' next possession for a two-yard score, putting City High back up, 18-10.
Lemke then added another field goal (32).
Right before half, Bryce Hunger found Zach Jones on a bubble screen that he took to the house from 77 yards out, giving City High a 26-13 lead at half.
Clinton's Kaleb Galant scored on the opening play of the fourth quarter to cut City High's lead to 26-21.
But Foster proved to be too much for the River Kings to handle as he busted loose for a 70-yard TD run.
A fourth quarter TD pass from Hunger to Jones made it 41-21.
