Iowa City duo gets No. 1 seeds for girls’ state swimming

Iowa City High's Grace Hoeper and Iowa City West's Kamila Swanson earned top seeds for this weekend's girls’ state swimming and diving meet in Marshalltown.

Hoeper earned the top seed in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.95 seconds, where she also is the defending champion.

She also is the No. 2 seed behind Bettendorf freshman Lillian Andedo in the 50 freestyle. Andedo's time is 23.29 to 23.31 for Hoeper, who is the two-time defending state champion in the event.

Swanson, who was third at the state diving meet last season, has the top qualifying score of 494.20, just over eight points better than Southeast Polk's Holli Hetzer (491.10).

Iowa City High's 200 freestyle relay — which includes Hoeper, Elsa Farber, Louisa Berry-Stoelzle and Saoirse Miller — has the No. 4 seed in the event.

The meet begins Friday at the Linda Bloom Natatorium inside the Marshalltown YMCA . The swimming preliminaries start at 11 a.m. with the diving competition set for 4:30 p.m. The swimming finals are set for noon on Saturday.
