The Iowa High School Athletic Association released a statement Wednesday via its official Twitter account, announcing its objection to the Iowa High School Sports Network’s new plan for pay-per-view state championships.
The IHSSN announced Tuesday it would start charging for state championships streaming, starting with the 2023 state baseball tournament in July. IHSSN Executive Director Alan DeBolt said in a news release the events will remain accessible through the IHSSN’s Iowa cable and broadcast television affiliates.
The IHSSN said it will charge for $9.99 for a single game or match and $18.99 for a tournament pass to watch all championship matches and games via streaming.
The IHSSN previously streamed the boys’ state football, basketball, wrestling, soccer and baseball tournaments and coed state track and field meet for free.
The IHSAA noted it has filed a petition in Polk County court, asking for a declaration on the rights of the parties to charge the public under the current media rights agreement.
