Girls’ track & field: Area individuals to watch

Top returning area girls' track and field competitors for the 2017 season (with last year's state results):
AUTUMN ANDERSON, sr., Cedar Rapids Jefferson — Ran on Class 4A-champion 800-meter and sprint medley relays, 2nd in the 400 relay, 3rd in the 1,600 relay.
MIASIA BERGMANN, jr., Cedar Rapids Jefferson — Ran on Class 4A-champion 800-meter and sprint medley relays, 2nd in the 400 relay, 8th in the shuttle hurdle relay.
CIERA DEITCHLER, soph., Elkader Central — Ran on Class 1A-champion 1,600- and 3,200-meter relays, 6th in the 400, 6th in the 400 relay.
PAIGE HOLUB, jr., Monticello — Ran on the Class 2A-champion 3,200-meter relay, 2nd in the distance medley relay, 4th in the 1,600 relay, 5th in the 800.
ANNA HOSTETLER, jr., Mid-Prairie — Class 2A champion in the 1,500-meter run, 3rd in the 3,000.
MEGAN HUDSON, sr., Union — A member of the Class 2A-champion shuttle hurdle relay and 400 relay, 2nd in the 100 hurdles, 4th in the 200.
KATIE NIMROD, jr., Decorah — Ran on the Class 3A-champion 1,600-meter relay, 2nd in the 400 hurdles and distance medley relay, 7th in the 3,200 relay.
BAILEY NOCK, jr., Iowa City West — Placed 3rd in the Class 4A 3,200-meter relay, 5th in the 800, 6th in the distance medley relay and 8th in the 1,500.
CELINE RICKELS, sr., Cascade — Ran on the Class 2A-champion 800 relay, 2nd in the sprint medley relay, 3rd in the distance medley relay and 400 relay.
ANNE RYAN, jr., Cascade — Ran on the Class 2A-champion 800 relay, 2nd in the sprint medley relay, 3rd in the distance medley relay and 400 relay.
VALERIE WELCH, sr., Iowa City West — Placed 3rd in the Class 4A long jump, 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles, 4th in the shuttle hurdle relay.

PAYTON WENSEL, jr., Linn-Mar — Class 4A champion in the 400-meter dash, 5th in the 3,200 relay.
