A dozen area players to watch for the 2014-15 girls' basketball season:
KARI FITZPATRICK, 5-11, sr., Edgewood-Colesburg - Averaged 22.0 points, 12.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 5.2 steals per game. Class 2A 1st-team all-state.
SHELBY HEMBERA, 6-0, sr., Cedar Valley Christian - Averaged 33.2 points and 16.4 rebounds per game (both state highs) as well as 3.0 blocks per game. Class 1A 1st-team all-state.
COURTNEY JOENS, 5-10, jr., Iowa City High - Averaged 14.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game. Hit 41 3-pointers. University of Illinois commitment.
MEGAN MAAHS, 6-0, jr., Western Dubuque - Averaged 12.0 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.9 blocked shots per game. Shot 54.9 percent from the field. Class 4A 2nd-team all-state.
NICOLE MILLER, 5-0, sr., North Linn - Averaged 25.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 4.1 steals per game. Shot 50.7 percent from the field, 80.7 percent from the free throw line. Class 2A 1st-team all-state, Drake University signee.
MICHALYN MOHR, 5-10, sr., Marion - Averaged 12.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.0 blocks per game. Shot 52.7 percent from the floor. Class 4A 2nd-team all-state.
MIKAELA MORGAN, 5-11, sr., Iowa City West - Averaged 14.9 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Shot 76.1 percent from the free throw line. Class 5A 3rd-team all-state. University of Northern Iowa signee.
AMANDA OLLINGER, 6-2, jr., Cedar Rapids Jefferson - Averaged 18.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.4 blocks per game. Shot 81.0 percent from the free throw line. Class 5A 2nd-team all-state, University of Iowa commitment, 30th-rated junior by ESPN.com.
M'CAELA SELLERS, 6-1, jr., Cedar Rapids Kennedy - Moved from Cedar Rapids from Minneapolis area. 60th-rated junior by ESPN.com.
ROSE SIMON-RESSLER, 5-9, sr., Western Dubuque - Averaged 12.8 points and 6.5 rebonds per game. Class 4A 1st-team all-state.
RYLEE VOSS, 5-11, sr., English Valleys - Averaged 15.4 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.4 blocks per game.
ARIKA WOOLDRIDGE, 6-0, jr., Center Point-Urbana - Averaged 18.0 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Shot 55.4 percent from the field. Class 3A 1st-team all-state.
