Linn-Mar’s Parker Macho and Cedar Rapids Washington’s Andrew Seifert are the top seeds in two events

If the district qualifying times are any indication, Gazette-area swimmers are primed to do big things at this week's state meet
Area individuals and relays are ranked either first or second in nine of the 11 events entering state, which is set for Friday and Saturday at the University of Iowa’s Campus Recreation & Wellness Center in Iowa City.
Seniors Parker Macho of Linn-Mar and Andrew Seifert of Cedar Rapids Washington are the top seeds in two events each. Macho will be looking to defend his state titles in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 butterfly. His qualifying time in the 200 IM (1:49.60) is the best by almost four seconds. His butterfly time (47.84) is over two seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
Seifert, in search of his first state title, has the top times in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.
Linn-Mar's 400 freestyle relay team is the top seed with a 3:06.91, over four seconds better than No. 2 Iowa West (3:11.06).
Other No. 2 seeds include Linn-Mar's 200 freestyle relay, Cedar Rapids Washington's Peter Wittnebel in the 200 freestyle and Iowa City West's Ethan Landon in the 100 backstroke.
