East Buchanan leads 1A state golf after day one

Defending champion East Buchanan is leading the Class 1A state meet by 10 strokes after one round at the American Legion memorial Golf Course in Marshalltown.

The Buccaneers carded a 308 Friday and have a big lead on Algona Garrigan (318) and Winfield-Mount Union (332).

WMU junior Kaleb Hagge shot a 68 to lead the individual scoring, one ahead of Woodbury Central senior Anthony Gallagher. East Buchanan senior Chris Cooksley, shooting for his third state title, is in fourth after carding 72.

DeWitt Central leads Class 3A at Spring Valley Golf Course in Livermore, shooting a 308 to stay ahead of Williamsburg (312). Benton Community is in ninth (345). Gilbert junior Tommy Doyle leads individually with a 68 card, three strokes ahead of Williamsburg senior Ethan Jacoby.

Sheldon leads Class 2A at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
