CENTER POINT - Raegan Dufoe was just trying to set up a teammate.
The Center Point-Urbana junior managed much more.
Dufoe's left-corner kick 13 minutes into a Class 1A girls' soccer regional final sailed over the defense and curled into the net, the first score in a 3-0 victory over No. 11 Pella Christian at Fross Park.
'I was looking for Allie Wooldridge and the wind took it the right way,” Dufoe said. 'It paid off in the end.”
A long Wooldridge goal less than two minutes later helped send seventh-ranked Center Point-Urbana (15-4) to the state tournament for the second year in a row, but this time Dufoe will be accompanied by best friend and younger sister, Lauren Dufoe.
The freshman goalkeeper, who did not allow a goal during Wamac Conference play, made sure the first-half flurry would not be threatened, leaning on a staunch group of defenders to notch her 13th shutout this season.
'Going out, I know that if I at least get a hand on it, they've got my back no matter what,” Lauren Dufoe said of the CPU defenders.
Following an eight-game win streak, the Stormin' Pointers entered regional play losers of three of five contests. Two regional shutouts later, and it's on to the 1A state quarterfinal against Gilbert (16-3) Thursday at 12:45 p.m. at Cownie Soccer Park in Des Moines.
'I don't have words, it is amazing,” Lauren Dufoe said.
Adrianna Katcher collected her team-high 16th goal this season with less than 14 minutes left in the match for the final margin.
This will be the fourth sport where Katcher will represent CPU at state.
The freshman won a cross country individual state title, was second in scoring for the state semifinal girls' basketball team and was a state track runner-up in the 3,000-meter race. Now, she'll try and help the girls' soccer team advance out of the state quarterfinal, where last season ended.
'We've had goals all year,” CPU Co-Coach Todd Mitchell said. 'Our next goal is to do better than we did last year.”
Juniors Sydney Boevers and Jordan Van Vors notched assists for CPU.
Pella Christian, which started 2-3 but won 13 of 14 entering the regional final, ends its season at 15-5.
