Down 17, Grinnell rallies past CPU in OT

Jan. 7, 2017 10:39 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS — An unlikely comeback led to a dramatic finish.
Kameron Moore scored on a twisting drive with 1.8 seconds left in overtime to give Class 4A fourth-ranked Grinnell a 61-59 victory over 3A No. 5 Center Point-Urbana in the final game of Rivalry Saturday at the U.S. Cellular Center.
The Tigers (8-2) came all the way back from a 17-point third-quarter deficit, holding CPU (9-2) without a point in the fourth period.
CPU appeared to be running away with it when freshman Adrianna Katcher hit three consecutive 3-pointers for a 53-36 lead with 50 seconds left in the third quarter, but the well went dry for the Stormin' Pointers from there, and Grinnell worked its way back into it.
Sienna Durr's basket with 45 seconds left in regulation tied the game.
CPU had leads of 56-53 and 57-56 in overtime, but Durr hit three of four free throws to put Grinnell in front, 59-57. Raegan Dufoe made two foul shots to get the Stormin' Pointers even, then Moore hit the winner.
Moore led the Tigers with 19 points, and Durr added 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Katcher paced CPU with 16 points. Allie Wooldridge added 13 before fouling out late in regulation.
