West Des Moines Dowling has gone from consensus No. 1 to unanimous No. 1 in the Gazette/KCRG/KGYM high school football poll.
By virtue of a convincing 45-14 victory over then-No. 2 Waukee, the Maroons (3-0) claimed all seven votes from the poll panel this week.
Dowling is one of four teams that have been ranked No. 1 since the preseason. New Hampton (Class 2A), Maquoketa Valley (Class A) and Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton (8-Man) are the others.
Pella is the top team in Class 3A for the third straight week while Fort Dodge St. Edmond holds the top spot in 1A for the third week in a row.
Dowling (3-0) plays at seventh-rated West Des Moines Valley (2-1) on Friday in one of three 4A top-10 battles. No. 3 Cedar Rapids Washington (3-0) is at No. 9 Linn-Mar (3-0) while No. 6 Johnston (3-0) plays at Waukee (2-1), which dropped to No. 5.
Cedar Rapids Xavier (2-1) continues to chase Pella (3-0) in 3A. The Saints blanked Solon (2-1), then ranked No. 3, in a 3A District 4 battle last week. Solon fell to eighth.
Center Point-Urbana (3-0) moved into the 2A rankings at No. 8 after forcing seven turnovers in a 14-12 upset of North Fayette Valley (2-1), which fell seven spots to No. 9. Williamsburg (3-0) moved up a pair of spots to sixth after edging Mediapolis, 14-13.
Iowa City Regina (2-1) remains at No. 2 in 1A; South Winneshiek and West Branch, both 3-0, are third and fourth.
Led by running back Ryan Parmely, Maquoketa Valley (3-0) garnered all but one first-place vote in Class A. Logan-Magnolia (3-0) jumped three spots to No. 2 after dropping Council Bluffs St. Albert, 42-0, ending the Falcons' 53-game district winning streak.
Defending Eight-Man champion Don Bosco remains No. 2 behind Exira-EHK. Both are 3-0.
