CHICAGO - Brady Gromacki of Iowa City got the thrill of his young life last weekend, pitching (and hitting and running) at Wrigley Field.
Gromacki, 10, won the Iowa City regional pitch, hit and run competition on April 26 in the 9-10 age group, earning him a trip to the sectional in Bettendorf on May 17. He won there, too, and earned a high enough score to advance to Wrigley Field, one of 30 such competitions held June 8 at Major League parks.
A member of the Iowa City Boys Baseball Junior Dodgers, Gromacki finished second in his age group in Chicago, competing against other sectional winners from Iowa, Illinois and Indiana.
'The whole experience was so cool, and I think that Wrigley is just plain awesome,” Gromacki said. 'I'm hoping to go a round further next year.”
A round further is competing at the MLB All-Star game.
