Clinton minor league baseball stadium hosts Williamsburg-Camanche football

Ashford University Field in Clinton traded the crack of the bat for the crack of shoulder pads Friday night.
The home of the Midwest League's Clinton LumberKings was transformed into a prep football field as Williamsburg took on Camanche in what was dubbed the LumberBowl.

We've seen something like this before — the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium, Illinois and Northwestern playing at Wrigley Field — but never at the Iowa high school level.
"We have always wanted to use the facility for multi purpose events," LumberKings General Manager Ted Tornow said in a release. "This is a great event to start off that process with."
The LumberKings hosted an MWL playoff game Thursday night so, as reported by the Clinton Herald, the groundskeeping staff was up late getting the field ready.

That included removing the pitchers' mound.
"After the mound is done, it'll mostly be a matter of laying out the field and painting the lines that are required on a football field," head groundskeeper Alex Gilmore told the Clinton Herald.

Williamsburg ultimately rolled to a 55-7 victory to improve to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in district play.
Now, time to wash out those dirt stains.
