Cedar Rapids Washington turns to co-head softball coaches

Dec. 28, 2018 3:36 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS — Former players at Cedar Rapids Xavier and Cedar Rapids Jefferson will be joining forces to coach the softball program at Cedar Rapids Washington.
Erin Drahozal and Breann Sells will take the reins next summer.
A three-time all-stater at Xavier, Drahozal will conclude her college career this spring at Upper Iowa University. Drahozal has been an assistant coach on the Washington staff the previous two seasons.
Sells played softball at Jefferson, and is currently employed at Federal Express. Washington Athletics Director Grant Schultz said Sells has been 'heavily involved' with the Junior Warrior Softball program since 2014.
'We are looking forward to the strengths that both Erin and Bre will bring to our softball program,' Schultz said in a release Friday. 'They are both extremely passionate and will work tirelessly to increase our program numbers and be successful.'
Washington was coached by Amy Bautista last season, compiling a 2-37 record. The Warriors were 0-39 the year before. There's some young talent there; the 2018 varsity roster featured eight eighth-graders.
