CEDAR RAPIDS — Outfielder Levi Usher of Cedar Rapids Prairie has been selected to play in the 2017 Perfect Game USA All-American Game, it was announced Tuesday night.
The game is August 13 at San Diego's Petco Park and features 53 of the top senior-to-be prep baseball players in the country. He will be joined on the West team by Davenport Central pitcher Ian Bedell.
Usher is hitting .466 in 37 games this season for Prairie, with seven home runs and 33 RBIs, and has not committed, yet, to a college. He is the fourth Metro prep to be selected for the game, following Cedar Rapids Xavier's Brent Warren (2007), Cedar Rapids Jefferson's Kellen Sweeney (2009) and Cedar Rapids Washington's A.J. Puk (2012).
Other Iowans to play in the game were Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Jeremy Hellickson (Des Moines Hoover in 2004), Iowa City High's Jon Gilmore (2006), West Delaware's B.J. Hermsen (2007) and Urbandale's Keaton McKinney (2013).
