TEAMS TO WATCH
C.R. Washington — Matt Sinnott begins his fourth season as the Warriors head coach. Washington finished 11th at state last year and returns four state individual event qualifiers in Andrew Seifert, Gavin Lucas, Peter Wittnebel and Anthony Trotta. Korbin Dixson and Remy Barton also were state qualifiers for the Warriors. Washington could be a team on the rise even more next season as Sinnott has only one senior on the 30-man roster.
Iowa City West — Second-year Coach Zach Armstrong could have the best team in the MVC this season. The Trojans finished fifth at last year's state meet and have lost a couple of standouts from that team, including state 100-yard butterfly champion Holden Carter and Max Gerke. However senior Hayden Hakes returns after finishing second at state in the 500 freestyle. Junior Winston Fan also scored at state, taking 10th in the 100 breaststroke. West has a strong swimming tradition. If the likes of Ethan Landon, Joshua Trent and Oliver Mikulski continue to improve, the Trojans could have another strong season.
Linn-Mar — Tom Belin is back coaching the Lions, sharing the head coaching duties with Kathy Vorhies. Linn-Mar finished third at last year's state meet and could be in contention for a podium finish again this year. Juniors Parker Macho and Hudson Huberg scored points in multiple events at state. Senior Owen Sieren also returns along with junior Carter Byers. The Lions have a large roster with more than 50 listed, many of them incoming freshmen.
