The boys' state swimming meet is returning to Iowa City after a 13-year run in Marshalltown, the IHSAA announced Tuesday.
The IHSAA Board of Control approved a three-year contract for the University of Iowa's Campus Recreation and Wellness Center to host the event. The 2018 state meet is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 10.
Featuring a 25-yard competition natatorium and 25-yard warm-up pool, the University of Iowa's new facility opened in 2010 and hosted the 2015 NCAA Championships, an event that will return in 2021 and 2022.
The 2016 Mississippi Valley Conference meet was the first high school event at the new facility.
Before it was moved to the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA in 2005, the University of Iowa hosted state at its Field House Pool for the previous 19 years and 29 of the first 68.
'The Marshalltown YMCA/YWCA and Marshalltown Community Schools were exceptional hosts and the Y provided a great venue for our state swimming championships,' IHSAA Executive Director Alan Beste said in a statement. 'The move to The University of Iowa's Campus Recreation and Wellness Center provides an opportunity for our championships to be held at a site where the NCAA Men's Championships have been held and will be held again in the future.'
This fall's girls' state swimming meet will be at Marshalltown.
The IHSAA also announced a boys' state basketball schedule change Tuesday.
