DES MOINES — Wednesday's games at the boys' state basketball tournament at Wells Fargo Arena:
Class 4A Quarterfinals
No. 6 IOWA CITY WEST (19-4) vs. No. 3 DES MOINES HOOVER (21-2)
* Time: 8:15 p.m.
* Tournament history: This is West's 16th appearance at the state tournament, its fifth in a row. The Trojans have won six championships, including three straight in 2012, 2013 and 2014. West placed third last season. Hoover is at state for the 12th time, the second year in a row. It has one championship (2006). These teams actually met in last year's consolation game, with West winning.
* Coaches: West's Steve Bergman is 519-180 in 30 seasons as a head coach. This is his 25th season at West. He has won five state championships. Hoover's Courtney Henderson is 149-78 in nine seasons, including 132-29 in seven seasons at Hoover.
* Top players: West has potentially four Division I college players in its starting lineup. Junior guard Connor McCaffery is the team's leading scorer (16.4 points per game) and also leads in assists. Fellow junior guard Devontae Lane is next at 13.2 points, followed by senior forward Wali Parks (12.7 ppg) and Tanner Lohaus (9.1 ppg). Lohaus has signed with Northern Iowa, Parks with junior college power Indian Hills and McCaffery is an Iowa commit. Junior center Douglas Wilson leads Hoover in scoring (15.3 PPG). Senior guard Y'vez Quinn is next at 12.0. The Huskies allowed just 33 and 24 points, respectively, in their two substate games.
